What made it even more distressing was that one of the affected pet owners had previously brought their animal to our clinic for treatment. Witnessing such tragedies has left me feeling deeply oppressed and concerned for our field.

These unfortunate events reveal significant deficiencies in how veterinary medical devices are manufactured and managed. The widespread anxiety among pet owners and vets alike stems from a fundamental lack of established rules and oversight within the industry.

2. We Can No Longer Work Without Guidance

As veterinary professionals, we must follow clear operational norms during our daily work. These standards are not just meant to protect the interests of animals and their owners; they are essential for protecting the interests of veterinarians as well. Without industry standards, we are essentially walking through a thick fog, never knowing when we might stumble.

2.2 Starting with Myself to Build a Better Foundation

In the field of small animal hip replacement—my area of expertise—this need is particularly urgent. As one of the first veterinarians in China to utilize these implants, I have always believed that establishing technical specifications is vital for manufacturers, animal hospitals, and pet owners.

3. Finally Establishing a Benchmark for Veterinary THR

3.1 A Group Standard Born from Collective Effort

Finally, led by Guangzhou Vetmaster Veterinary Technology Service Co., Ltd., our team at Guangzhou Boshi Animal Hospital joined forces with Shenzhen YY United, Guangdong Polytechnic of Science and Trade, the New Materials Institute of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences, South China Agricultural University, and other authoritative bodies. Together, we officially released the T/GDAAV 1011—2024 "Surgical Implants - Technical Specification for Veterinary Hip Replacement Implants" through the Guangdong Society of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine.
